Vehicle Congestion

“You are not stuck in traffic, you are the traffic.”

Traffic jam in Metro Manila is been a problem for over a decade. Commuters perpetually sitting for hours in a heavy traffic every day, and “it’s déjà vu after all”. But, is there something that we can do to solve this nightmare?

Using a public transportation is difficult, unorganized and inefficient. Drivers pick up passengers in non-designated places and blocking the roads. Because of these, people tend to buy their own cars to go to work or school. With affordable car loans, they can purchase a car without difficulty and add to traffic. While it is good for our economy, it just worsen our problem.

Philippines lose up to billions per day due to traffic. This includes lost work hours, lost business opportunities due to delay. Aside from the patience, time and fuel are wasted. Gas emission are increasing and risks to health. According to Department of health, the air in Metro Manila contains pollutants that excess of tolerable level. Less cars, less air pollution and it lessen our carbon footprint.

There are no one-night-solution to our traffic congestion. It should start by fixing our public transportation. The most importantly, we should contribute for the solution not to the problem. While we are waiting for the long-term solutions from our government, let us learn how to be creative and disciplined enough to come up with answers of our own.
