The birth of MAA General Assurance Phil., Inc.(MAAGAP) took place when its parent company, MAA International Group Ltd. (MAAIG) from Malaysia ventured to strategically expand its business in Asia.MAAIG is an offshore composite insurance company licensed under the Offshore Insurance Act 1990 in Labuan International Offshore Financial Centre (IOFC) to underwrite life and general insurance and reinsurance business.

Gearing for the planned expansion, MAA procured the insurance license of the then Paramount Insurance Corporation and renamed it MAA General Assurance Phil., Inc. as it is popularly called now. Its thrust for full-scale operation commenced in September 1, 2001 after securing license from the Insurance Commission.

MAA General Assurance Phil., Inc. offers insurance service for motor car, personal accident and health,property or fire and allied perils,engineering, aviation, marine and hull, casualty and bonds.

Commonwealth Insurance Company (CIC) was established in 1935 by Don Andres Soriano, who also founded San Miguel Brewery. Computed to be in its 7th decade, CIC is one of the most experienced insurers in the Philippines. Surviving the challenges of time, its ownership has been transferred from various hands until the present professional group of enterprising investors took over on October 7, 1997. These investors were ably led by Mario A. Noche, who eventually became the Chairman of the Board and concurrently the Chief Executive Officer and President of Commonwealth Insurance Company.

From the time the new management and owners took over, CIC had outperformed most of its competitors and still outperforming them now. It is today, one of the respected and recognized leaders in the insurance industry. CIC has been duly accredited by almost all universal, commercial, development, savings and rural banks together with leasing and financial institutions in our country. The continued growth and progress of CIC in the insurance industry could be principally attributed to its excellent service to its growing clientele through prompt settlement of valid claims and fast issuance and delivery of needed insurance policies to its clientele nationwide.

Under the present energetic and innovative management, CIC is committed to continue the legacy and tradition of quality service with a vision for excellence emulated and started by Don Andres Soriano.

On October 29, 1962, Edmundo F. Unson, Sr. together with other businessmen founded The Mercantile Insurance Co., Inc. The early years of Mercantile Insurance were spent in the bustling district of Escolta, Manila and five (5) years later, transferred to Juan Luna, Binondo. In 1975 it built and found its current home in the historic Walled City of Intramuros.

Through the years, its volume of business grew and this necessitated the setting up of regional offices in Cebu, Davao, Bacolod, Cagayan De Oro, San Fernando-Pampanga, Calabarzon, Dagupan, Legaspi and soon will open more in progressive areas. Mercantile’s Retained Premiums grew from P255 Million in 2013 to P570 Million in 2016. Likewise, its Total Assests rose from P 800 Milllion to P1.3 Billion.

It kept its strong reputation of providing excellent and personalized service both retail and corporate accounts.
Today, The Mercantile Insurance Company has reached another milestone in the annals of the company history. It was acquired by partnership with Camerton Incorporated, the holding company of Cirtek Holdings Philippines Corporation, Figaro Coffee, Tien Ma’s, Angel’s Pizza. With the coming in of the new partner, Mercantile Insurance Co., Inc. will assert its position to be one of the most stable, dynamic and respected names in the non-life insurance industry.
